The SE Silver Sky | John Mayer Model | PRS Guitars

Description
The PRS SE Silver Sky, a sleek and versatile electric guitar inspired by 1960s classics but built for today's players. This familiar yet innovative instrument from PRS Guitars provides rich tone and smooth playability at an affordable price. The Silver Sky SE features a lightweight poplar body, bolt-on maple neck and rosewood fingerboard equipped with PRS's trademark bird inlays. Its 22 frets and 25.5" scale length, combined with the original 635JM carve profile and 8.5" fretboard radius, offer a blend of vintage feel and modern comfort.
635JM "S" Pickups Provide a Versatile Range of Sounds
The Silver Sky SE is powered by a trio of 635JM "S" single-coil pickups that produce crisp highs, punchy lows and a balanced midrange. A master volume control, two tone controls and a five-way pickup switch allow for a wide array of tones from glassy and chimey to full and throaty. This versatile pickup configuration handles everything from articulate funk rhythms to expressive blues leads with ease.
High-Quality Components and Construction
As with all PRS instruments, premium materials and meticulous craftsmanship are hallmarks of the Silver Sky SE. It features a synthetic bone nut, PRS's double-acting truss rod, two-point steel tremolo bridge and vintage-style tuners. The inverted headstock is a tribute to 1960s classics, while PRS's signature bird inlays add a decorative touch. Road-ready durability and pro-level quality come standard on this workhorse guitar.
Modern Playability Meets Vintage Esthetic
From its familiar lines and curves to the blend of modern and vintage specifications, the Silver Sky SE strikes a balance between nostalgic style and contemporary functionality. Unbelievable. Absolutely fantastic!
My background: I've been playing guitar for 20 years, and have gone through many guitars and amps in that time. I consider myself to definitely be a tone-snob and usually only end up with very high end instruments and amps/effects at this point. My current guitars include a 1999 Martin OM-21, a 2002 American Fender Strat that's been heavily modified with new Callaham bridge and Custom Shop 69 pickups, a 2013 Gibson Custom Shop R9 1959 Les Paul, and a 2020 Fender Custom shop Heavy Relic 70th Anniversary Broadcaster. Playing into a Dr. Z Z-Wreck Jr amp with Chase Bliss Thermae Delay, Chase Bliss Automatone mkii, Walrus Audio Fathom reverb, and original Hermida Zendrive. The Silver Sky SE is jaw droppingly good. Period. If you didn't know the price or where it was made, you might think it's a custom usa made guitar. I got the stone blue color. When I first picked it up and played it clean, it was so readily apparent that this guitar was an absolute killer. It's by far and away, and by such a humongous margin, the best sounding and playing guitar in this price range that I've ever played. Playing with just a touch of overdrive this thing has sustain for days. I would put this thing up against anything less than $3.5k and I'm sure it would at least equal if not beat most of whatever you compare it to. It sounds more like a strat, than my strat. Honestly it sounds like the best vintage strats from many classic recordings. Playability is fantastic. I would give this my highest recommendation and say if you can find one in stock, I would buy it without hesitation. Because of its price, this would be a fantastic gigging guitar. Leave your custom shops at home and gig with this monster. You won't regret it.

GC losing ground again
After waiting in anticipation for the arrival of the Silver Sky SE I was once again reminded of why GC is the way it is. The guitar is amazing unfortunately there is no QC process in place by CG. Packing was less than optimal as it was bouncing around inside. The guitar appeared to have been played as the protective cover on the pick guard was peeled back and the strings had to be changed. The D and G Stings where bent over the bridge pickup as they have been removed and replaced. I know this is an SE but I have seen other competitors QC their shipments much better. I know it's a PRS Se, however at over $850 I feel more attention should be taken to ensure customer satisfaction.

A Better Strat

PRS makes a better strat than Fender at a similar price point. I played every Fender in the store at the same price point and they all had various problems (bad tuning stability, pickups sounded meh, fret quality issues, neck felt dry and hard to slide, etc.) and then comes the PRS Silver Sky. This is what I wish that the typical strat sounded and played like. I own another PRS guitar that also plays a feels really nice as an SE model. You really can't go wrong with this guitar if you're after that classic strat tone but in a better package. Every pickup on this sounds great and the 2nd and 4th positions on the blade switch create a humbucker if you need that tone as well. I love how punchy the pickups sound when just switched to the single coil position though and it was a primary factor in getting this guitar. They also look great too!
Very Impressed with this guitar!

Searching for the Hendrix Band Of Gypsys tone forever. Saw this guitar at GC tried it out. Was amazed ...seriously amazed. Played it against 2k vintage Fender. I am not kidding you this sounded better. Immediately purchased and will never be sold. If your searching for Hendrix on a budget or not doesnt matter the tones on this guitar will rival all those of any Fender IMOP.
This guitar is awesome!

As nice a Strat tone as Ive ever had.Weight is very good at 7.9lbs.Tuners look a little funky but work well.Sounds great through my Orange Rocker 15.Guitar stays in tune and has a much nicer gigbag than Fender Standard Strat.Fretboard is rosewood as opposed to Laurel on MIM strays.Nut is cut very well and the action is excellent .At this price it's a very good value!

I must have played 6 different Fender Stratocasters yesterday. Everything from Players to the American Ultra series. But none of them felt as good as this PRS SIlver Sky SE did in my hands. Maybe it's just personal preference, but I couldnt believe the cheapest PRS felt better than one of the more expensive Fenders.
Good guitar.. great value for the money

Why on earth would prs make the frets significantly lower on the import model? This does not make the guitar easier to play for soloists.
