louder than a mesh head but so easy to put on and take off. If you are going to use your snare regularly, definitely worth the money not to have to switch heads every time you need to play live. Great product.

I ordered these since the single ply mesh heads just didn't sound great nor play very well for me. I ordered some of these to use and they feel a lot better and now my kit actually sounds like a drum kit without the volume. I like that you can actually adjust the tension of the heads to have it tight or loose to help with having a different feel for each drum. Pairing these with a drum tec pro mesh head for the bass drum and some Zildjian L80 cymbals is honestly the best low volume kit configuration you can have to have good sound and realistic feel.

I have used slip-on mutes on my snare, and they shred fairly quickly and I end up with neoprene crumbs and dust everywhere: on my cymbals, on my drum rug, and in-between the batter rim and the bearing edge. On top of that, the mute on the top head makes the snares loud and obnoxious, so the only way to peacefully practice is to turn the snares off--not with the Black Hole... I get the tone of my snare drum, the snares, and stick attack at low volume. I intend to get these for my toms next, and maybe the kick.

Have all three quiet systems, drum mutes, silent stroke heads and RTOM black hole system, drum mutes don't last long , snare mute about a month. silent stroke heads are to bouncy. if I had it to do all over again I would buy the RTOM system and ether the low volume or quiet tone cymbals.

Can you use the black hole system to play live shows? Or is it just mainly made for home practice?

It probably wouldn't be loud enough for a live show.
