Well I got a 42 strand snare for Christmas, and it was time for a new batter head as well. Resonant head was original PDP that came with the kit (Pacific CX) so I thought I would replace it as well. I purchased a power stroke x for the batter, and the emperor for the resonant. Man oh man was I ever happy with the sound, once I got the new snare strung and heads tuned the sound was amazing! On my old setup I had to use moon gel to dampen the ring, now I don't use anything! Happy, Happy, Happy!

I replaced my factory Ludwig snare side head with this. Wasn't sure if it would make a difference. Man, was I wrong. My snare has never sounded better. Huge improvement. Fast Shipment and delivery, as always, with guitar center.

  • make sure you specify "snare side" when asking for emperor for bottom snare

lil less ring in brass drums. fatter sound than with standard ambassador 3-mil. there is an Emperor top head (batter) that is like 2 plies of 7-mil film. there is the Emperor "snare side" for the bottom of your snare. that is 5-mils thick. the Emperor snare side is specially made for the bottom of your snare. If you accidentally install the batter head on the bottom of your snare then you will see a significant decrease in snare response

  • the snare bottom head I was looking for

The snare-side Emperor is great if you have had normal-thickness heads and your snare makes an irritatingly large amount of snare effect. This is thicker than the snare-bottom head that would normally be recommended and leaves you with a bit less snare action because of that (less of a revolutionary war snare sound in my opinion). Don't know how it compares to other brand's heads of the same thickness (7 mil for the bottom side if I'm not mistaken), but it's great for me, tuned as easily as any other, and sounds good.

This snare side head completely screwed up the sound of my snare. Before this, I had an Evans Hazy 300 snare head. I would much reccomend that over this snare side ANY DAY. It just gives your snare this horrible nasty ringing tone no matter how well you tune it.
