Jojo Mayer Demos Sabian Chopper

SABIAN

collapse expand iconDescription

The Chopper is an innovative multi-application percussion effect that delivers quick, tightly focused white noise accents and rhythms. Comprised of three bronze discs--two of which are cut into propeller-like shapes--riveted loosely together, the Chopper is a totally unique playing experience for drummers and percussionist. When played, the three discs agitate each other and produce a distinctive raw sound.

The Chopper looks simple but is a very complex instrument designed to play accents and rhythms with equal effect. It does this through a combination of etched surfaces and a special die-cut design that lets the three discs vibrate and agitate together; creating the short burst of white noise that makes the Chopper so special.

Already the choice of Mike Portnoy, Will Calhoun, and Rodney Howard, the Chopper fits comfortably on stands in any drum or percussion set-up. A Chopper can also add a distinctly different flavor when used in place of an X-hat, or laid on a snare drum to create a funky techno-type slap. The Chopper is quality protected by the one-year Sabian warranty.

  • It is an alternative where a closed hi hats would be added.

Fast attack and accents...Definitely It is really useful in those situations where quick cuts or accents that emulate hi hats are needed.

I am not a professional drummer, I don't play in a band. I have been playing since I was 13 years old and its a hobby. I can't set up my full kit in my house currently. I go and play at a friends house and was able to bring a few small pieces I recently purchased. This was what I was looking for. Its that perfect little accent to add to a fill or alternate off your hi-hat/ride. I just fits.

  • I love the sound great overall cymbal

The chopper symbol has a very unique, one of a kind, distinct sound. I would discribe it as a cross between a hand clap & a finger snap. i use it when playing song intros, solos, and rythms. Has a focused quick accent; especially enhanced when it's mic'd up! It's by no means a con, love this symbol! Well worth the $$$. However it's a heavy cymbol. Doesn't move much when you strike it. But be mindfull where u mount it.
