Bought this guitar used

I bought this guitar used in Raleigh NC and I got to say I was very impressed. This is my first 8 string guitar and my first Schecter and after coming from the cheap jacksons that had all sorts of issues, this left me super impressed. I have had no problems with the guitar at all, it came really fast(it came 3 days after ordering. it said it would come in 3-5 days), and it sounds amazing when plugged into my fender mustang LT50. I got to say I am going to stay with Schecter for a while because this guitar is awesome. The only issue I found was that the volume knob was basically on/off as it wouldn't change the volume knob by much but that could be on account that its a used guitar. other than that it is amazing.
I only buy schecter guitars.

I spent months and hundreds of dollars trying to get this thing to stay in tune. After taking this thing to 2 different guitar techs, I still couldn't keep this thing in tune. I can get the 3 bass string in tune, then everything else goes out of tune. Or, I can get the 6 std guitar strings in tune and the 2 bass strings won't stay in tune.... With any of the strings that I used. (Same thing with my Schecter C-9 Hellraiser.) Until I bought a custom set of strings. I had to buy a bunch of string packs from Ernie Ball, 90s and 68s and get the rest of the strings as single strings, 50, 38, 28, 21,16 and 12. The issue was the standard sets of strings Ernie ball sells are unbalanced in their tension. Thus, the custom packs. I ended up selling my C-9. This one is next.
Great but....

I thought this model deserved a decent review for anyone looking into picking one up. I've had the guitar for about 6 months now and it is my first extended range guitar. I tried a few different 8 strings and ended up with this one so that says something. As with any new guitar you're going to be picking up some of your favorite brand strings. This is going to pose a bit of an issue. I found that I was unable to buy a set of off the shelf strings that I thought would work well with the instrument. The strings that the instrument comes with are entirely too small on the bass side. 75 on the bass side does not provide enough tension. I did find a company String Joy that made me a custom set 12-85 for a very reasonable price. As far as hardware is concerned its what you should expect from the companies least expensive 8 string. Its good enough to get by but not great. Pickups sound fine. The tuners were okay although I did have to drill out the F# and B tuners to fit the heavier gauge strings. Not really a big deal for me. The fixed bridge is fine. I was able to get the intonation as close to perfect as one can on an 8 string without fanned frets. The instrument plays great neck feels good. If you are looking to experience an 8 string on a budget this one has everything you need at a reasonable price. I'll be replacing the tuners and bridge with HipShot pretty soon but thats because it has become my primary guitar. Two big things to remember: if you want good strings they will be custom order and if you can bring your amp to try it out. The low sting is the same octave as the low E on a bass so your amp needs to be able to handle it without shaking itself to death. I recommend at LEAST a 12" speaker.
