Seymour Duncan SHPR-1s P-Rails - Neck and Bridge Pickup Set Black

In the right guitar and good amplification, these pick-ups can do it all in one neat little package. I play so many different types of music it would be hard to have all the guitars a person might think they need to do good renditions of other artists songs, but these pick-ups make it a little easier to do something like that.

I bought mine oh four years ago and loved them immediately in my LesPaul at the time. I would highly highly recommend mounting them in your guitar with Seymour Duncan Triple Shots. They then turn your pickups into multi combination pickups. Because they are wound differently when you cut the power to the bla you get that fat P90 and if you go to the blade and bump the volume a bit more those single coils will sound great.

I read a lot of reviews before I buy a product, so it's only fair that I write some too. I bought these SD P-Rails along with the Triple Shot mounting rings for an Epi Sheraton II. I liked the stock neck pup on the guitar, but quickly learned to dislike the tones from the bridge pup. They were flat and thin and a beautiful guitar like this deserves better! My first course of action was to seek the advice of our local guitar shop. The tech, really didn't want to do the job (not an easy one in a semi-hollow) but he agreed with me that the bridge pup was less than average. So he said he'd order up a SD JB for the bridge and a Seth Lover for the neck. But after waiting for over two months to get the parts in, I finally gave up on them. So I did a bunch of research and tackled it on my own with these P-rails and the triple shot rings to add some more tonal variety. I did have to drill one new mounting hole in the guitar for each pup, but other than that, it was pretty straight- forward for the install. And the results? What a difference! And a good one! The P-rails in HB mode sound really good with a rich, full flavor! But the P-90 tone is even better! I like the rail tones as well, but not quite as much as the other two. This guitar sounds great now and it's worked itself back in to getting much more play time. I enjoy moving around through all of the different combinations of available tones. The only reason I didn't give these 5 stars was because of the somewhat flimsy construction of the triple shot rings. I guess that's not exactly fair, because this review is for the P-rails. But then again, SD recommends this system as a package. So P-rails 4.5 stars and rings 4 stars. At any rate, these pups and rings saved a really nice guitar that I'd sort of lost interest in. That made my wife happy because she bought the guitar for me for Christmas. I highly recommend them if you need to improve the tones from your guitar. The rings for splitting the tones just make them that much better. Anyone with some basic soldering skill and a bit of patience could do the install themselves.

So much more option to tweak sounds on the fly. P90's sound great, 'buckers sound great, rail sounds great. And the cream color is very close to Gibson stock color for the pickup selector switch. Only drawback is that I had to have a tech install them, but whatever - I'm lazy. Cut me some slack.

O.K., It's almost a year later. I have tried reversing the position of these with the rails, rails out, one in and one out, etc. I have the three position mounting rings. If you purchased these for the p-90 sound they're half descent. But I purchased them for the single coil rail sound. I already had a great set of S.D. humbuchers on this guitar before I put these. And if you read most reviews on the individual bridge or neck p-rails, they're of the same as I have stated. The single coil rail sound is hollow, tinny, and weak to say the least. Just look at the ficticous names of the people who give these high marks, kind of says it all. I've been at this 46 yrs, not my first ball game. Rail sound needs improvement.

I have a set of these and I have tried all the options available. The best sounds is to get the Seymour Triple shot mounting ring and reverse the pickups like the Rails further apart and the P90 closer together. When you use the Rails together you get an almost Tele or Gretch type of sound. These are the most versatile pickups for a giging musician if you have to bring only 1 guitar!
