I dropped this Seymour Duncan SJM-3 Quarter-Pound pickup in to the bridge position of my Player II Jazzmaster and the thing roared to life. Much bolder/richer tones than the stock pickup, and blends well with the stock neck pickup. Install was a cinch, and the quality is great.

I had some disappointment with the stock 'Yosemite" pups that came in my American Performer Jazzmaster (not to mention the choice of using the unstable Strat tremolo that barely stays in tune), but overall a well-built guitar. I play hard rock and needed more output from this classic single coil axe, and these pickups are so good, I installed both bridge and neck replacements and can't say anything negative about the sound: increases signal output, slightly decreases high end (not a problem with most Fenders) and supplies more midrange punch with unexpected clarity. Not o mention great spontaneous feedback and overtones that work well with my Marshall. Possibly the best and most useful of all the many Seymour Duncan upgrades I've done to my guitars over the years. If you are looking for 'vintage' surf sound, please just let a vintage Jazzmaster, mine sounds amazing now, like a P-90 on high-end steroids!. Only complaint is the low pole pieces, could provide even more output if they were taller. You'll have to disassemble the neck to get the front pickup installed. Otherwise, looks stock.
