Traveler Guitar

collapse expand iconDescription

The Escape Mark III is a full-scale acoustic-electric travel guitar with advanced features for the discriminating player on-the-go. The Escape Mark III is a full 25-1/2"-scale acoustic-electric travel guitar with a headphone amp built in. The proprietary In-Body Tuning System uses standard tuning machines relocated into the body, eliminating the need for a headstock. As a result, you’ll have the same full-scale playing experience you’re used to on an instrument that’s 26% shorter and 47% thinner than a typical, full-sized acoustic.

The built-in Shadow headphone amplifier produces a crisp, clean signal through headphones for private practice sessions. A Shadow Nanoflex pickup under the saddle senses the vibrations of the strings and body for an acoustic-style sound without the bulk of a resonant mahogany body. The control plate includes volume, treble and bass controls, a built-in chromatic tuner as well as a headphone output and aux-in for jamming along with your favorite tracks. A standard 1/4" output jack allows you to plug into your favorite amp. Features include a cutaway body for high fret access, and a bolt-on mahogany neck with black walnut fingerboard. It has standard tuning machines and uses standard acoustic strings, measures only 29-1/2" long, and is ready to play right out of the gig bag. The Escape Mark III is a perfect solution for traveling acoustic players unwilling to compromise on scale length, and looking for a compact yet comfortable guitar. Fits easily in airline overhead compartments in the included deluxe gig bag.

Great little practice/travel guitar

I'm really enjoying this little Mark III. It's increasing my practice time by allowing me to just pick it up and take it anywhere - couch, back porch, sitting at my desk. And I can practice silently with earbuds/headphones or plug it into my Bugera acoustic amp and it sounds great. Another great practice feature is the ability to plug in my iPhone and listen to a metronome or backing tracks or lesson audio tracks etc. Also great for sitting at my desk creating tracks. And of course for travel it's perfect. I bought some bubble wrap for extra protection in the gig bag when traveling but it's probably not necessary (I'm just a bit over protective). One note on the sound - this is an electronically created acoustic sound so, although I think it sounds great, it would be unrealistic to compare it to, say, my Martin (or any decent "real" acoustic). And actually, for the size/price/configuration, if it sounded as good as my Martin that would concern me. But you can dial in a nice tone. Overall I'm very happy with it.

My volume pot went bad, need to replace the entire preamp.

I have the Escape MKIII natural and I think the guitar is built pretty well but my volume pot went bad. Started crackling and then no sound. I took the preamp off to see if I could clean it. Nope, it's sealed and looks like a 10 cent part. I contacted Traveler and they said the only fix is to replace the entire preamp that they sell for $79.99. Great design Traveler, now I'm forced to give you another 80 bucks.

I bought the Mahogany version earlier today and started and have been having so much fun and enjoying the sound that I had to force myself to put it down. Such a cool guitar. Sounds great! I love the aux input as well for jamming. Such a cool guitar!

Just picked this little guitar up, was looking at a different travel guitar, but went in with an open mind. Sales person opened the box in the store to show me this little beauty. First thing I did after playing a few chords was to check out the on-board tuner. Four of the strings were in perfect tune, 2 were just slightly flat. By the dust on the box I knew it had been sitting in the back for a while; and it was still pretty much in tune. Played couple of hours after I got home, nice feel, action was great, and not a bad soft sound when playing without plugged in or listen with headphones, headphone jack built right into guitar (1/8th) This morning it's still in perfect tune. I have 2 Martins, a Taylor and a Gretch, this little guitar is a winner, love it!!! Oh! Well built and looks nice too!!

We just bought an Rv so I wanted something I could take along without taking up a lot of space. I looked around and this has a full 25.5 neck and is 1.75 wide at the nut. The neck is excellent, no jagged frets and a nice rain finish. I did sand down the bridge, added elixir strings and adjusted the truss rod just a bit. It is amazing for the price. I do agree with another post, the electronics are not that good but that's okay. It's just a practice guitar.

I work as a solo pub entertainer on cruise ships... would you use this guitar professionally? I fly a lot and since airlines are becoming more and more strict with hand luggage allowances I'm looking for a good traveler guitar.

It's really not that difficult. You go through the back and it's not that hard at all.
