Of the American Freestyle sticks, the 85A is perfect!
The length, heft, and feel of the 85A projects like a 5A, but has the slight nimble feel of a 7A. When I play, im not slinging and whipping hammer handles, yet, the sound pulling out of the drum and cymbals cuts through amps and live sound. The drums sound crisp and up front without overpowering like yelling into somebody's ear too be heard in the club. 7A's feel great but they don't always cut through loud guitar amps, vocals, bass guitar, and stage monitors. Its alot to compete with to have a footprint in the mix. Larger stick diameter compensates for disappearing under a wall of sounds, but for me, sacrafices comfort and feel. The 85A is the best of both worlds with feel, projection, and the sheer ergonomic joy of a stick that becomes the perfect compliment to my style of playing.

OK sticks
I only bought these sticks because the sticks I primarily use (the Chester Thompson 1A's) have been out of stock for the last three+ months, and I'm down to my last decent pair. These seemed to be the closest thing to the Chester's with regard to length and weight. They're a little thicker, at .580" diameter I believe, compared to the .550" diameter of the Chester's, but the length is about the same, at around 17". They feel OK, they're a little heavier than the Chester's, and the taper is slimmer. They'll work to fill in the gap until my Chester's ship. I wouldn't use them as my primary stick, but they're OK as a fill-in. I don't know what happened at the Regal Tip factory, but by the time I receive my new Chester's, it will have been four months since I ordered them. Extremely frustrating.

I would definitely get these sticks again they're actually about to become my primary sticks to use. Slightly bigger grip than a 5a extreme but nothing to crazy and longer taper so you don't have to reach hard while playing
I would recommend these sticks.

I bought these sticks for the first time. Before a gig. They felt well balanced, and held up well during the show. They didn't get chewed up, like some other sticks I've used. #sweepstakes.

The are several Vic firth drum pad sets. The Vic Firth Fresh Approach Starter Pack includes sticks. There aren't any beginner sticks. They're standard sizes. The Starter Pack included "Vic Firth" slicks. They're a top name. SD1 GENERAL DRUMSTICKS. You should give the specs for ALL of your drumsticks. Length, width, type of wood, tip shape - to facilitate easier comparisons.
