VOX

collapse expand iconDescription

The VOX SDC-1 Mini guitar is a revolutionary short-scale electric that puts the sound and feel of a full-sized guitar into a compact, travel-ready package. Thanks to an innovative tuning system and premium components, the SDC-1 Mini plays and sounds like a standard electric guitar despite its small size. The short 479 mm scale length and narrow neck make this an ideal choice for beginners, children and any guitarist with smaller hands. But don't let its stature fool you—the SDC-1 Mini is a serious tool for practice and performance.

Short Scale, Standard Feel

While the SDC-1 Mini is smaller than a typical electric guitar, it maintains the same pitch, string tension and tuning as a full-sized instrument. Heavy gage strings and precision tuners specially designed for short-scale guitars allow for accurate tuning and an authentic playing experience. The short scale length also makes stretching and bending strings easier.

Robust Tone From a Mini Pickup

Despite its small size, the SDC-1 Mini delivers impressively robust tone thanks to a custom mini humbucking pickup. While typical mini guitar pickups can sound thin and anemic, the SDC-1's pickup provides the warm, full tone expected of a humbucker. Roll back the tone knob for a round, jazzy sound or crank it up for snarling rock tones.

Lightweight Body for Comfort

The SDC-1 Mini features a lightweight poplar body that provides comfort during long practice sessions and performances. Poplar is a lightweight, resonant tonewood that contributes to the guitar's full sound without added bulk. The contoured body nestles comfortably against the player for an enjoyable playing experience.

Take Your Guitar Anywhere

At just under 19" in length, the SDC-1 Mini goes anywhere life takes you. Keep one on hand for impromptu practice in small spaces like tour busses, hotel rooms or park benches. Its compact size also makes the SDC-1 Mini a perfect travel companion for family vacations. You'll never be without your guitar again.

This mini guitar really is mini! It's impressively small and overall it's a fun little instrument. But the quality is quite low. Brand new out of the box it has some small scuffs on the body, there are almost razor sharp fret edges all along the neck, and once tuned up properly it has fret buzz on the low E and A strings. Some adjustments to the neck or bridge string height might help that, although the bridge string height is already maxed out. The sound is decent, but far from equivalent to even my cheap full size guitars. This little guitar is made in China. I'm glad I paid less than half the retail price. At that price point it is acceptable. If I paid full price I'd feel ripped off and be sending this back.

  • Sounds like a full scale electric guitar

If you can play a 6 string guitar ( regardless of size or strings) - you can play this. Also perfect for someone who plays a small scale piccolo guitar or guitalele (just different "e to e" tuning instead of "a to a") .

  • It's a real guitar for my 6 year old.

I fix my guitars and love doing it so I went in fairly sure I would have to at least set it up because while most on the rack aren't terrible, they usually need help. To my amazement I have not had to adjust anything on this guitar. The action was great, it stays in tune. My kid love it.

This is a great little machine. The biggest single failing I see in short scales, which I collect, is the tuning pegs. Shorter, looser strings mean you need high ratio pegs, which most big companies don't bother to provide. But Vox did. This is the shortest scale guitar in production now, and I never saw shorter. You would expect Vox to do a good job, and they did. It only has one pickup. A whammy bar would be nice. I can think of ways it could be better, but compared to most other shorties, this instrument is a winner. Price is a bit higher, but then, you don't need to change out the tuning pegs, saves $60 right there. Highest recommendation. One of the very best guitars on the short scale scene.

I’m sorry, I don’t know. In a case like this we recommend having a qualified tech look at the instrument.
