How To Buy Your First Bass Guitar

Description
Yamaha's TRBX174EW Mango Wood 4-String Electric Bass combines the trusted quality of the Yamaha brand with a stylish exotic wood top and matching headstock. The TRBX174EW bass provides exceptional playability for modern bassists seeking a high-performance instrument for practice, live performance and recording.
Exotic Mango Wood Top Adds Visual Intrigue
The TRBX174EW features an exotic mango wood top with eye-catching wood grain patterns, giving the bass a distinctive appearance unlike other models. The exotic wood veneer is expertly finished in Tobacco Sunburst, highlighting the natural beauty of the wood.
Comfortable Body Shape and Fast Maple Neck
Yamaha designed the TRBX174EW with their familiar, comfortable body shape and a fast-action bolt-on maple neck. The smooth rosewood fingerboard has a 10" radius and narrow 40mm nut width, providing a familiar feel for bassists accustomed to playing narrower nut widths.
Versatile Tone from P/J Pickup Arrangement
The TRBX174EW gets its bold tone from a split-coil Precision Bass pickup and a single-coil Jazz Bass pickup. The P/J pickup arrangement delivers a range of tones from deep, punchy lows to sharp, defined highs. On-board controls include master volume, pickup blend and tone, providing flexibility for crafting the perfect sound.
Road-Ready Durability and Solid Hardware
From the chrome-covered tuners and vintage-style bridge to the durable mahogany body, the TRBX174EW is built to handle the demands of performance and touring. The bass includes a gig bag for safe transport and storage between rehearsals and shows. The Yamaha TRBX174EW Mango Wood 4-String Electric Bass offers exceptional value with bold tone and style.

I have Yamaha RBX270J and I love. It decided to upgrade to this model because it is mahogany and has better tuners. What a disappointment. First good: It has good sound. Electronics are simple and solid. Pickups are not Duncan or EMG quality but for this price they are great. It is comfortable. Now the bad part: 1. Fret buzz. 1-3rd fret on G string. Buzzes on sustain. Badly. 8-16th fret on A string. Buzzes on sustain. 2. SHARP FRETS. The fret edges on the G string side feel a bit like barbed wire. Nothing that sandpaper can't cure but it should NOT be on a new project. This is not a deal breaker but it shouldn't be there. The bass is going back. I am utterly disappointed in Yamaha, compare to the old RBX270J that I have, this is utter garbage. It is going back and my RBX270J is getting a set of Area J pickups instead.
Wonderful for our use

Very nice bass guitar for the price! It's the first bass I've ever owned. I never played the bass before; & I didn't want to spend a lot of dollars for a first bass guitar. All in all, a very good buy!

It's a string tree. It keeps the strings level.
