  • Do not buy at GC online. Please go to physical stores.

I bought a brand new 14-inch Zildjian K Light Hi-Hat Top Cymbal at GC online (USD 269.95 + taxes), but I received a used one. Really dissapointed, the cymbal has many fingermarks, on the side/border has some marks which worry me because they might convert into cracks sooner and even the cymbal had 2 blue scotch tapes on the bottom side (clearly used item or "testing" product at stores, for sure not a brand new cymbal). Unfortunately I bought it online and sent it to a friends house (as I live in Argentina) and now when received I noticed this. Not able to return it if not I would do so. Very sad expoerence.

This is my 2nd pair of 16" hats after picking up the k sweets last year. These seem to play with a more equal balance in their wash and have a beautiful throatiness/growl to them that really sits well in the mix. Love these hats

  • Great for jazz and quiet gigs, not rock. No attack or chick.

I heard so many good things about these guys with how versatile they are. They are not. They are great if you're playing quiet gigs or want weaker hi hats. They do not have a good closed attack at all. Very dinky. I tried them in the studio, again, not good for rock or heavier music. Meant for more jazz and quiet indie stuff. Make sure you know what you want before getting these.

  • Dark, warm & sizzling hats.

The Zildjian K Light 15" Hi Hats have a warm sound that blends in perfectly with My Armand 21" Ride and 18"-19" A/K Thin/Medium Thin Crashes. They respond immediately to whatever you lay into them, may it be quick "barks" or riding 'em halfopen hence, very rewarding, playingwise. Tonally, these guys click, hiss and erupts with dark authority but not in an overwhelming way as they're very easy to control. I assume these are not the first choice for "bashers". If you're looking for some really versatile, musical, hi hats you should check these ones out!

Recently traded in my 14" K Custom Session high hats for the now discontinued 13" K Lights. Like Tim's review, I play often with brushes, rods, and VF AJ6s and 2s in a small, largely acoustic Christian group. The K Customs are lovely cymbals, but I feel the K Lights are an improvement for me in terms of definition and laid back sound. They produce a warm and distinct "chick" and respond musically to whatever dynamic you apply. They really reflect well the nuances of various sticks, brushes and mallets. I can play these open without overwhelming the singers. If you're in a jazz, acoustic, or easy listening situation these are an excellent choice. Love them. To reiterate, I have the 13" K Lights which are no longer available.
