Zildjian

collapse expand iconDescription

The 23" Zildjian K Sweet Ride cymbal unleashes a sea of rich, shimmering overtones perfect for drummers chasing an emotive, expressive sound. Forged from Zildjian's legendary B20 bronze, this hand-hammered beauty sings with dark, smoky undertones and a velvety sustain. Its medium-thin weight and traditional lathing techniques endow the K Sweet Ride with a pliable, responsive feel that shapes to your playing. An articulated bell cuts through the mix with clarity while the bow delivers a wash of harmonically complex overtones. For rock, jazz or symphonic genres, the K Sweet Ride brings a lush musicality to your kit.

Vintage-Inspired Hammering

Zildjian has been handcrafting cymbals since 1623, and their time-honored techniques shine through in the K Sweet Ride. Traditional hammering gives this ride a dark, shimmering spread of overtones with a hint of trashiness reminiscent of vintage cymbals. The hammered surface also allows the K Sweet Ride to open up dynamically under the stick, giving drummers an expressive instrument that colors outside the lines.

Articulate Bell, Velvet Wash

A focused, penetrating bell provides cutting definition for intricate rhythmic work or melodic rides. The medium-thin weight and broad, unlathed bow deliver a wash of smoky overtones with a long, velvety sustain. Drummers can coax a range of timbres from crashing thunder to a hushed whisper. With a pliable, responsive feel, the K Sweet Ride takes on the character of your playing.

Versatile Musical Voice

Equally at home in rock, jazz, orchestral or world music settings, the K Sweet Ride brings a lush musicality to any drum kit. Its rich spread of harmonically complex overtones allows drummers to craft emotive sounds and connect on a deeper level. Paired with crisp, articulate stick definition, the K Sweet Ride fuses power and nuance in a single cymbal. The K Sweet Ride gives drummers a versatile, soulful voice.

This ride has super nice stick definition, great wash, and it loves to be crashed. The bell is also very cutting and musical. Hoping to try out the 23inch version at some point.

I've been playing a 21" A Sweet ride for a couple of years and it works great for a wide variety of music. I specifically focus on the worship genre, but I play a lot of different things, and it's a great all purpose ride where you don't need too much cut or definition. For extreme cut and clarity I use a 20" A Custom Ping Ride. Anyway, I've been thinking about "upgrading" to a K Sweet ride because I adore my K Sweet crashes (18" and 20"). To my ears the K Sweet Ride is actually a bit higher in pitch than the A Sweet. Striking around the center of the bow gives a little more of a "ting" sound where as the A Sweet is maybe a little more of a "tong" sound. The bells are almost identical. The crashes are very similar as well. It seems a bit warmer and not quite as harsh overall but the differences between the 2 cymbals are so minimal that I doubt it will even come across when I record it. You could think of it as a slightly higher pitched, slightly more responsive A Sweet Ride with a big letter K on it that costs $95 more. I'm very pleased with the sound as I find the A Sweet just a bit dark at times and more harsh than what I consider ideal, though it's certainly adequate as well.

Having owned this cymbal for about a year, it's the only ride cymbal I've brought out ever since getting it just because it's so versatile and can be used for everything. It responds great even when playing with hot rods at really small venues, but can also be big and loud on an arena gig. It has a nice crash and comes right back after it, meaning that you can play on the bow of the cymbal right after crashing on it. It's also got a really nice defined bell. The only time when I wished to have something lighter and washier was a pop cover gig when the crash was just a little too heavy. Even though it felt heavy on a pop gig, it's really nice for jazz due to its focused sound.
