zil bel

this cymbal is honestly one of the best things ive ran into. Its perfect for metal hardcore and any new rock styles. It goes excellent with double bass and rough music. Amazing with little fill ins or intro starters. Also great for keeping rythm. I say this is a have to have cymbal its small sounds great and you cant beat a better sound!!!

Does one thing, but does it well.

The sound of this thing is instantly recognizable to drummers the world over. Ding! This bell produces a highly metallic sound, almost more of an aux percussion instrument than a cymbal. I primarily use it in fills in conjunction with closed hat / ride bell / splash. In the context of linear fills with other cymbals, it sounds great. But outside of accents and filling, there is not much that can be done with it. Endless sustain, very definite tuning fork-like harmonic undertone. However, it has managed to keep its place on my kit mounted over a crash for the last decade, despite all its shortcomings, I couldn't imagine my setup without it.

I've been using this bell for the better part of 15 years but all my cymbals were stolen after a show from my car, and had to replace them all. This particular bell is the exact same one I had before, but this one is even louder than the one I had. Fantastic bell for sure! #sweepstakes.

My wife ordered the 9.5 inch Zil-Bel to ad to my drum kit.Shipping was quick but cymbal has a manufacturer defect on the outer edge of it. Can't wait to get it replaced to start playing on it with the rest of my Zildjian ZBT Cymbals.I would like to give a more informative review. This review is not meant as a bash review. I'm just a little bummed out.I'll get over it.

Alright, so I may be the only review from a non-metal drummer... But here goes. I drum in a jazz/fusion group (emphasis on fusion, we get into some pretty heavy hard rock sometimes), and I use this a lot- however, I don't use it so much in fills as I do for effect. I have the 9 incher, and the dominant pitch is an F natural, so I often try to sync it with chords that have that note in them. It has a very clear, resonant tone, which cuts through everything and eventually fades to some fundamental drone that goes on seemingly forever. It's an interesting (and somewhat creepy) effect, and I wouldn't hit it too hard in your little garage practice space, if you like your ears. This will probably outlast you, the metal is 3/4 of an inch thick, or so, and I think you'd have to drop it from an airplane to shatter it. You can easily shatter a stick on it, though, so be careful.

  • Love it.

This was a great addition to my kit. I mounted it upside down on top of my 16" splash. Love the tone and the long decay. Found a fun thing to do - smack it a good one and cup my hand over the top of it and move my hand close to it and back away - makes a neat Leslie speaker like effect. Having so much fun with the six inch version that I will be adding the larger one in the next couple weeks. Sounds very different from any of bells on my 16" and 18" splash or the 20" ride. It is fun to toss it into the middle of things with the long decay. Get one - you will love it.
